Error description

  • The IIDR CDC for z/OS Meta-data VSAM cluster has
SHROPTIONS(3,3) coded. This permits shared use of the cluster
between different FailOver instances, but does not provide
protection should there be any possiblity of overlapping
accesses between different instances. Given the purpose and use
of the Meta-data VSAM cluster, such overlapping accesses are
not expected to occur. This window of opportunity should be
    eliminated.

Local fix

  • Until a permanent resolution is provided, this issue can be
avoided by allocating a DD:CHCMTDTA VSAM cluster for each
instance being used in a FailOver configuration. If the name of
the VSAM cluster contains the &SYSNAME system symbol, a single
JCL procedure can be used to allocate the corresponding cluster
for each instance. This will require that any Alerts and Alarms
settings be made on one system, and then the contents of that
system's DD:CHCMTDTA VSAM cluster be copied over to the other
cluster(s). Once a resolving PTF is available, this local fix
can be abandoned, and the use of a single DD:CHCMTDTA VSAM
    cluster restored.

The DD:CHCMTDA VSAM cluster may be corrupted in a FailOver
    configuration.

Problem conclusion

  • The VSAM SHAREOPTIONS for the DD:CHCMTDTA VSAM cluster have been
changed from (3,3) to (2,3), and serialization services are now
used when accessing the data in the VSAM cluster.
