PH12506: ADMIN TOOL ALTER COLUMN SIZE ERROR MESSAGE TOO LARGE FOR PAGE SIZE DOES NOT ALLOW TABLESPACE BUFFERPOOL CHANGE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When altering a column to a size larger than that accomodated
  by the tablespace's current page size, the following error
  message may appear:
  Too large for page size.
  The error occurs because Admin Tool does not allow the user to
  proceed to alter the tablespace and change its bufferpool at
  the same time as altering the column in the table.
  This fix will enable the user to make all of these changes at
  one time.

Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the DB2 Administration Tool for     *
  *                 z/OS who alter tables and tablespaces via    *
  *                 the panels.                                  *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When altering a table's column length,  *
  *                      Admin tool does not allow a concurrent  *
  *                      change to the tablespace's bufferpool   *
  *                      in order to allow the alter to the      *
  *                      table to take place.                    *
  ****************************************************************
  Altering the length of a column in a table greater than the
  allowable length will result in a "Too Large for page size"
  message. without providing the user the ability to change the
  bufferpool of the tablespace to allow the change to happen.
  
  This fix allows the user to make all of these changes at the
  same time, as follows:
  
  1. The user should first navigate to the tablespace and ALTER
  the bufferpool size. This size will remain updated throughout
  the ALTER session.
  2. The user can then ALTER the column size of the table.
