Problem
Administrator installs Controller. Administrator launches "Cognos Configuration" and creates a connection to the ContentStore (Content Manager) database. Administrator tests the connection, but this fails (timeout error). However, when the administrator launches "Controller Configuration" and creates a database connection (from the same application server to the same database) this connection works OK (even using the same id and password). Why does the connection work OK for the Controller "application" database, but not for the Cognos BI "ContentStore" database?
Symptom
When testing database connection:
- IBM Cognos Configuration is performing the following tasks:
TICK Generating cryptographic information
! Testing Content Manager database connection.
[Close] [Details]
[ ERROR ] The database connection failed.
[ ERROR ] Content Manager is unable to access the content store. Verify your database connection parameters, and then contact your database administrator for assistance.
When starting the Cognos BI service:
- CM-CFG-5063 A Content Manager configuration error was detected while connecting to the content store.
CM-SYS-5003 Content Manager is unable to access the content store. Verify your database connection parameters and then contact your database administrator.
Message inside the file 'cogserver.log' (by default C:\Program Files\cognos\c8\logs\cogserver.log)
Failed Logon:com.jnetdirect.jsql.JSQLException: TCP/IP connection failed to host:SERVERNAME java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect url:jdbc:JSQLConnect://SERVERNAME:1433/Content_Store_Database
