Error description
Customer installed FP 14 on WAS 8.5.5 Network Deployment running on Solaris 10. The installation was successful but we noticed that a new directory called "bin" appeared under /apps/WebSphere/was855/Plugins/java/ directory. The /apps/WebSphere/was855/Plugins/java/bin directory contains only one sub-directory called sparkv9 and that /apps/WebSphere/was855/Plugins/java/bin/sparkv9/ contains a whole bunch, 36 to be exact, of symbolic links that are all broken.
Local fix
The two directories of IHS and Plugin are created by IM installation. They should be removed. And they do not impact WAS or an application behavior running on them in any way.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Extra directories and broken links * * are installed after WAS 8.5.5.14 * * installation * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** After install or update to WAS 8.5.5.14 on Solaris, directory java/bin/sparcv9 and some broken links in it are installed. The extra directories and broken links are included in embedded Java 8 but not embedded Java 6 (both are in 8.5.5.13 or lower releases). WAS 8.5.5.14 only include embedded Java 8. And extra directories and broken links are always installed.
Problem conclusion
The fix is to remove these extra directories or links from embedded Java 8. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.5.5.15. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
