PH03247: LOOP IN IPI4PROC WHEN FLUSHING TRANSACTIONS FOR HIGH WATER MARK (HWM) PROCESSING

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • HWM processing traverses transaction queues; ignoring the
currently active transaction. But if there is only a single
entry on the primary queue it is ignored and we go back to
attempt storage acquisition again, causing an infinite loop. In
this case the Dictionary SMB queue held >85% of acquired storage
and Dictionary queues are not considered during HWM processing,
    only specific transaction queues.

Local fix

  • Set PA jobs REGION= parameter to 0M (ss REGION=0M) to avoid
    such storage constraints.

HWM processing traverses transaction queues; ignoring the
currently active transaction. But if there is only a single
entry on the primary queue it is ignored and we go back to
attempt storage acquisition again, causing an infinite loop.
In this case the Dictionary SMB queue held >85% of acquired
storage and Dictionary queues are not considered during HWM
    processing, only specific transaction queues.

Problem conclusion

  • During HWM processing, storage held by the Dictionary SMB
queue must also be available for release, if required. As
the Dictionary queue(s) do not support an ageing process
the entire queue will be freed. HWM processing will now
check for a minimum level of transaction queue availability,
if this threshold is not met then the SMB queue will be
freed, before driving the standard HWM processing.
