The failure to return results for a statistics request was
caused by 2 threads in the CICS TG IPIC code deadlocking each
other. When the modify command was issued to request the CICS
TG statistics, the ZOSConsole thread waited on the request to
collect the statistics which could not complete due to the IPIC
deadlock. Another symptom of this problem is that IPIC
sessions might become unresponsive, leading to a reduction in
the number of available IPIC sessions. A javacore dump taken at
the time of the problem shows "Deadlock detected !!!" with a
CICS TG IPIC receiver thread waiting on a resource lock which is
owned by a CICS TG TcpConnection thread, and the CICS TG
TcpConnection thread waiting on a resource lock that is owned by
the CICS TG IPIC Receiver thread.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS TG has been corrected to prevent the deadlock in the CICS
TG IPIC code, which caused the reported problem.
