PI44052: RCLEARTOOL DOES NOT RETURN TO 'RCLEARTOOL' PROMPT

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • In 'rcleartool' non-interactive mode., either logon name or
    password is wrong.
    The prompt stays waiting at "Login Name:" prompt and does not
    return back to 'rcleartool'

    CRCLI2008E Login failed; incorrect login-name or password.

    so with incorrect user or password (we do nok know which one)
    it just asks again, it does not return back to 'rcleartool'
    again.
    
    
    The problem is that rcleartool program waits forever at this
    prompt..
    It's not a big problem when a user is sitting in front of the
    screen and can type in username and password again.
    The problem show much more when a developer want to use a
    program that starts rcleartool.
    
    It is necessary that rcleartool terminates; the calling program
    can then parse the output of rcleartool and proceed
    
    As it is now, you can not start over with 'rcleartool prompt'..
    

Local fix

  • No workaround for this situation where they wish to have a tool
    to call 'rcleartool' and start over if login issues occur

Problem conclusion

  • This issue has been fixed in ClearCase version 8.0.1.9
