Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the DB2 Object Comparison Tool for *
    * z/OS who use the Compare function to *
    * compare sequences but want to prevent *
    * changes to the START and RESTART value. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If the user specifies 'Original' for *
    * the option 'SEQUENCE RESTART value' *
    * on panel GOC5 'Generate Compare Jobs' *
    * and wants to retain the START and *
    * RESTART values of the sequence on *
    * the target, Object Compare does not *
    *                      support this functionality.             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The START and RESTART value of the target can not be preserved
because the option 'SEQUENCE RESTART value' can only be used
for the RECOVER path, and the option should be removed from
panel GOC5. DB2 Admin need to add a new option to panel GOC5
to allow the user the option to decide whether to retain the
START and RESTART values for a sequence object on the target.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem has been resolved.
The following changes have been implemented:

    1. The option 'SEQUENCE RESTART value' was removed from
        panel GOC5.
    2. A new option 'Retain START and RESTART values: For sequence
object' was added to panel GOC5:

        Retain START and RESTART values:
              For sequence object . . . (Yes/No)

    3. A new information message ADB7207I / msgadb7207i was
added. It will be issued in the Compare report if 'YES' is
       specified for the new option.

    ADB7207I
The START and RESTART WITH target values will not be
changed because 'YES' was specified for the option 'Retain
START and RESTART values for sequence object'.

    Explanation
If 'YES' is specified, the START value and RESTART WITH
values of the target sequence will be retained and no
ALTER SEQUENCE...RESTART statement will be generated.
If 'NO' is specified and ignores for START and RESTART
fields are not specified, the statement will be generated
with values from the source to make the target the same as
        the source.

    System response
        Processing continues.

    User response
        None.
