Question & Answer
Question
How can I avoid the FLEXlm license server from being shut down remotely on Microsoft Windows?
Answer
Run following command while starting the license server to disable remote shutdowns:
lmgrd -c <path to license file> -2 -p
If the arguments -2 -p are used when starting lmgrd, then no user on Microsoft Windows except the Administrator can shut down the License Server with lmdown.
This will ensure that the lmdown command can be run only by a FLEXlm Administrator.
The license server can typically be stopped from client machines (provided the FLEXlm lmutil utility is installed in the client machine) using the following command:
lmutil lmdown -c port@hostname
With this option enabled, attempts to shutdown the license server will result in the error:
lmdown: You are not a license administrator (-63,214)
