Problem

This techNote explains how to resolve an error: Unable to get cursor holdability...ORA-01453: SET TRANSACTION must be first statement of transaction", that can occur when using IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC) to create tables for the Jazz repository.

Symptom

Unable to complete the repotools -createTables script at installation time using an Oracle database. The script aborts prematurely with the ORA-01453 error message:

Unable to get cursor holdability
Creating the tables for the database
"thin:xxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxx@//XXXXXX:ZZZZ/YYYYY" with indices.
Vendor specific exception
SQL Exception #1
SQL Message: ORA-01453: SET TRANSACTION must be first statement of transaction
SQL State: 72000
Error Code: 1453
CRJAZ0548I Failed to prepare the txn mode.
The database tables were not created.
