Feature differences between the ClearCase native client integration with VS .NET 2005 and the CCRC plug-in for VS .NET 2005 Integration

Question & Answer

Question

What are the main feature differences between using the IBM® Rational® ClearCase® (CC) native client integration with VS .NET 2005 as compared to using the IBM Rational ClearCase Remote Client (CCRC) plug-in for VS .NET 2005?

Answer

  • ClearCase native client integration with VS .NET 2005

Configuring your client system using the ClearCase native client integration with VS .NET 2005 will allow you to use both Dynamic and Snapshot Views from within Front Desk in your VS .NET 2005 IDE.

  • CCRC plug-in for VS .NET 2005

Configuring your client system with the CCRC plug-in for VS .NET 2005 will allow you to use only Web Views. Since some developers are remote, they will only have the option to use the CCRC plug-in if they desire to integrate with VS .NET 2005.

Note: The CCRC plug-in is specifically for VS .NET 2005 and should not be installed for integrating with VS .NET 2003, which is an unsupported configuration.

  • ClearCase native client and CCRC plug-in integrated with VS .NET 2005 on same host

It is possible to install both the ClearCase full client and the CCRC plug-in on a single client system integrated with VS .NET 2005 to use Dynamic, Snapshot, and Web Views all within the Front Desk applet.
