Setting up the integration of ClearCase with VS .NET 2005 using the CCRC plug-in

Question & Answer

How can I setup the integration of IBM® Rational® ClearCase® (CC) with VS .NET 2005 using the ClearCase Remote Client (CCRC) plug-in?

Remote users not developing with VS .NET 2005 locally will need to be able source control their applications.

Note: The CCRC plug-in is specifically for VS .NET 2005 and should not be installed for integrating with VS .NET 2003.
  1. Identify the name or IP address of your Rational CCRC/CCWeb server. Open a Web browser and use the following URL to reach the site that contains the CCRC plug-in for VS .NET 2005.

The CCRC plug-in for VS .NET 2005 can only be downloaded from a server running CC 2003.06.16 or later.

    Download URL: http: //server_name/ccrc/update

: This is the same download page from which you download the Standalone CCRC application for your remote users.

  2. Locate the section titled “Installing the ClearCase Remote Client for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005”. Follow the instructions to download and install the CCRC plug-in for VS .NET 2005.

  3. Once you complete the installation successfully, you will now have the “ClearCase” menu option at the top of your VS .NET 2005 IDE as well as the “Front Desk” applet.

  4. You are now ready to develop using the CCRC plug-in integrated with VS .NET 2005. This will allow your remote users to develop with this integration strictly with the use of Web Views.

Note: ClearCase does not integrate the CCRC plug-in for VS .NET 2005 in the same manner that the full client integration is installed. If you go to the “Control Panel” > “Add/Remove Programs” from your client system, you will notice that this plug-in is installed as its own application, as shown in the example below:
