Error description

  • The KBLA Option 2 set of panels retrieve and format log records
using module DFSERA10 and various exits. While a user can
supply control statements to DFSERA10 to select records by
various criteria, there is no support in this utility to select
records by criteria such as time ranges or log sequence number
ranges. It is desired to have the KBLA Option 2 panels perform
such range selection, even if such needs to be performed prior
to the invocation of DFSERA10 to format the selected records.

Local fix

  • Records can be selected by ranges through using the currently
    supported process:
    a) Invoke KBLA Option 3
    b) On this panel, enter 'Y' for 'Create/Process Subset of Log'
       - the 'Log Data Set Analysis' panel is displayed to allow
        range selection
    c) Enter the range selection criteria and enter 'Y' for
       'Create Subset of Log'
    - JCL is generated to retrieve log records for this range
    - A new log data set, associated with the LOGOUT DD statement
is created to hold the extracted records from the range
    D) Select one of the Option 2 panels
    E) Enter the name of the log dataset from the LOGOUT DD
statement in the 'Input IMS Log DSN' paraemter on the panel
    F) Enter additional desired selection criteria
       - The generated JCL will extract the records indicated by the
Option 2 selection crigeria from the log containing the
records within the range indicated during Option 3
         processing.

Users have requested a mechanism for selecting records within
specified ranges in the KBLA Option 2 panels. These panels
are used to invoke the file select and format utility,
DFSERA10. This utility does not allow for the filtering of
records based on a range. The current process of filtering for
a log in a certain range, is to proceed the use of the KBLA
Option 2 panel with a KBLA Option 3 panel. This is inefficient
and a better way to perform this action was desired. Panel
scrolling is also needed so when ISPF split-screen is being
used, the panels are still usable.

To add the range processing functionality to the KBLA Option 2
panels, we incorporated KBLA Option 3's capability into them.
The range panel DFSKPRNG was cloned from the Option 3 version
to allow the specification of time ranges, LSN ranges, recovery
tokens, skip records, process records, and /LOG command strings.
The REXX program DFSKRNGP drives the DFSKPRNG panel. The
Skeleton file DFSKSRNG was created to generate the JCL for range
selection which utilizes DFSKSUM0 to perform the range-driven
extraction of logs. The help panels for the range panels were
changed to follow the format HHMMSST.

The following is a list of parts that were changed to include
    range panel and scrolling support:
    Option 2.1: Panel: DFSKBL0A, REXX: DFSKB00A, SKEL: DFSKBS0A
    Option 2.2: Panel: DFSKBL01, REXX: DFSKR001, SKEL: DFSKBS01
    Option 2.3: Panel: DFSKBLA0, REXX: DFSKB0A0, SKEL: DFSKBSA0

The following part only received scrolling support:
    Option 2.4: Panel: DFSKBL03

The following are the help files that were edited:
