PI87503: VARIOUS ABENDS WHEN COLLECTING IFCID 346 RECORDS IN DB2 TRACE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When collecting IFCID 346 trace records, it is possible that
  there are many QPAC data sections.  If the number of QPAC
  sections collected are many, an overlay may occur in the
  storage area beyond the designated area.  In the cases found,
  the IBUF control block has a length of X'888E'.  Different
  areas and thus, different abends may occur, depending on the
  storage area overlaid.  Some of the abends found so far are:

Local fix

• Turn off collection for IFCID 346 or bypass use of online
  monitors which gather IFCIC 346 package detail records.

  IFCID0346 reports package detail accounting information.
  In order to retrieve the data, an IFI READS request must be
  issued to DB2.

  While processing the IFI READS command to retrieve the
  IFCID0346 data, an uninitialized bit caused DB2 to flow
  through an incorrect error path scenario.

  The error path scenario did not reset the buffer to write the
  next package information and thus overlaid data in blocks not
  associated with this task, resulting in the reported abend.

Problem conclusion

• DB2 has been modified to first initialize the bit and then
  exit out of the module if the error scenario has occurred.
