    * USERS AFFECTED:                                              *
    * Db2 for z/OS V11 and V12 data sharing users.                 *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * When table spaces or indexes are in *
    * GRECP state, it can be difficult to *
    * determine whether Db2 is going to do *
    * the recovery automatically, or if the *
    * user must drive the recovery manually *
    * using the START DATABASE command. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Apply corrective PTF when available *
    ****************************************************************
    Db2 V12, and Db2 V11 with PI75286 (UI51444) applied, will
    periodically drive recovery for objects in GRECP and/or LPL
    status. However, there is no indication given when this
    process has decided to give up on recovering a GRECP
    object, nor which objects have been left in GRECP state.

Problem conclusion

  • The automatic GRECP recovery retry process has been enhanced by
    the introduction of two new messages.

    Message DSNB317I is issued the first time that Db2 detects that
    there are no objects in GRECP state. This message may appear
    immediately after Db2 restart if nothing is in GRECP at that
    time, or after all GRECP objects have been recovered.

    Message DSNB328I is issued to identify an object for which Db2
    will no longer attempt automatic GRECP recovery.
