PI83030: ABEND U0240 (IMS TIMEOUT) AFTER UI35661 WAS APPLIED 17/10/10 PTF PECHANGE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• PTF UI35661 changed CSQACRTT and CSQAALST which are used
  during data conversion processing (e.g. for MQGET with
  MQGMO_CONVERT). For the MQ IMS adapter, CSQACRTT is part of
  load-module CSQQNORM, which will only be loaded when the IMS
  dependent region starts. CSQACRTT will load CSQAALST on first
  request to perform data conversion. However, CSQACRTT will also
  re-load CSQAALST when the IMS regions connection to the MQ
  subsystem is stopped and started (either due to a /STO and
  /STA SUBSYS, or if the MQ queue-manager is restarted).
  If it is the case that there is a pre-UI35661 of CSQACRTT
  together with a UI35661 version of CSQAALST, then a loop in
  CSQALOCT will occur, as seen here (the dump shows that MSTR
  was restarted at 03:21 GMT but the IMS dependent regions have
  remained active, hence this 'mismatch' CSQACRTT and CSQAALST
  has occurred).
  

Local fix

•  Ensure that the IMS regions are restarted after applying PTF
  UI35661.

  The IMS dependent regions were not restarted after PTF UI35661
  was applied resulting in an old copy of CSQACRTT running in IMS
  that loaded a new version of CSQAALST causing the loop.
  
  A similar problem can happen in CICS regions if they are not
  restarted after this PTF is applied.
  

Problem conclusion

• A ++HOLD ACTION has been added to this PTF indicating that
  IMS and CICS regions need to be restarted after this maintenance
  is applied to MQ.
