Problem

This technote explains why such errors as []referenced symbol not found[] or []free(): invalid pointer[] or []segmentation fault[] occurs while executing the IBM® Rational® ClearCase® xclearcase GUI along with steps to resolve the problem.

Symptom

Here are errors that occur when using the xclearcase GUI:

  • Executing the xclearcase GUI on UNIX® results in the error:

    ld.so.1: xclearcase: fatal: relocation error: file
    /usr/atria/config/ui/lib/X11/locale/common/xlcUTF-8.so.2: symbol
    _XInitOM: referenced symbol not found

  • Executing the xclearcase graphical version tree results in the error:

    %> cleartool lsvtree -g file.pl
    %> free(): invalid pointer
    0xfeffd590!

  • Executing the xclearcase GUI on Linux® results in the error:

    segmentation fault - core dumped

  • Executing the xclearcase GUI on Solaris® x86 results in the error:

    X Error of failed request:  BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
    Major opcode of failed request:  20  X_GetProperty
    Minor opcode of failed request:  0
    Resource id in failed request:  0
    Serial number of failed request:  239
    Next serial number to be used:  240
