Problem
This technote identifies the most common cause of the, error 1920. Service NutCrackerService (NutCrackerService) failed to start, which can occur when installing IBM® Rational® products.
Cause
The full error message that occurs:
Error 1920. Service NutCrackerService (NutCrackerService) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"
OR
"Could not start the NutCrackerService service on Local Computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
The options are "Retry"- which causes the errors to reappear, or
"Cancel"- which rolls the installation back to the beginning.
The likely cause is the fact that the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks service has not been installed for the LAN Local Area Connection.
Resolving The Problem
You must install the Microsoft® Windows® File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks service by using the following procedure:
- Open the Control Panel.
- Click Network and Dial-up Connections
- Click Local Area Connection
- Click Properties
- You will see Components checked are used by this connection and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks within the list
- If it does not, click the Install button
- When the Select Network Component Type dialog box appears, click Service
- When Select Network Service dialog box appears, within the Network Service list, click File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
- Next, click OK
- Close the Properties window, the Local Area Connection Status window, the Network and Dial-up Connections, and the Control Panel
The installation will then continue successfully. If it does not, you must restart the installation procedure from the beginning.
