Manually moving a Robot GUI script from one Test Datastore to another Test Datastore

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote describes the steps a user must follow to copy an IBM Rational Robot® GUI script from one project to another, existing project.

Resolving The Problem

To copy a GUI script from one project (the "source project") to a second project (the "target project"):

  1. Start Robot and login to the target project
  2. Select File > New > Script
    1. Type the name of the script to be copied
    2. Make sure the 'GUI' radio button is selected
    3. Click OK. An empty script should appear; close it.
    4. Repeat Steps 2a - 2c for each script to be copied
  3. Use the Microsoft® Windows® Explorer to browse to the source project's TestDatastore\DefaultTestScriptDatastore\TMS_Scripts directory
  4. Copy the ScriptName.rec file from the TMS_Scripts folder of the original project to the TMS_scripts folder of the target project.

Select 'Yes' when asked if you want to overwrite the ScriptName.rec file in the TMS_Scripts folder of the target project.

DO NOT COPY the ScriptName.Script.rtxml file
  5. Copy any related script files.
    1. Verification Points (if any) - Copy the ScriptName.VPName.* files from the TMS_Scripts\vp folder of the source project to the TMS_Scripts\vp folder of the target project
    2. Low-level recording (if any) - Copy the ScriptName.*.lls files from the TMS_Scripts\lls folder of the source project to the TMS_Scripts\lls folder of the target project
    3. References to header or library files (if any) - Copy the HeaderName.sbh and LibraryName.sbl files from the TMS_Scripts\SQABas32 folder of the source project to the TMS_Scripts\SQABas32 folder of the target project
    4. References to dll files (if any) - Copy the dll file from the TMS_Scripts\dll folder of the source project to the TMS_Scripts\dll folder of the target project
    5. If the contents of the guiobj.dat file in the TMS_Scripts\dat folder of the source project is not empty, copy its contents to the guiobj.dat file of the target project.
  6. Open the script in Robot and compile it.

Step 2 must be done individually for each script. Steps 4 & 5 can be done for many scripts simultaneously because they only involve manually copying files.
