NETSTAT Stack Option Output Not Going to REXX Exec

Troubleshooting

Problem

A REXX exec that issues the NETSTAT command with the STACK option works correctly when issued from TSO READY. However, when attempting to run the exec from ISPF, none of the output is on the stack. In addition, once you exit ISPF, it attempts to process the output lines as TSO commands.

Cause

At one time, the NETSTAT command had to be listed as an authorized command (to enable use of the DROP option). All releases since OS/390 2.10 have removed that restriction.

If NETSTAT is still listed in the AUTHCMD section of the IKJTSOxx PARMLIB member, its use under ISPF (either directly or if you use an exec) causes ISPF operations to be suspended. This includes switching back to the TSO command stack that was active before you invoked ISPF. So the stack in use by any REXX exec run under ISPF will not receive any output from using the STACK output option of NETSTAT.

Resolving The Problem

Update the IKJTSOxx PARMLIB member to remove the NETSTAT command from the AUTHCMD list.
