Error from VOB database and Trouble opening VOB database

Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote explains a possible cause and solution to the Error from VOB database problem when certain cleartool operations are performed in an IBM® Rational® ClearCase® VOB on Microsoft® Windows®.

Symptom

The following errors may appear when describing a VOB:

D:\>cleartool describe vob:\test_vob
cleartool: Error: Error from VOB database: "\test_vob".
cleartool: Error: Trouble opening VOB database: "\test_vob".
cleartool: Error: Not a vob object: "vob:\test_vob".

The corresponding errors may appear in the following ClearCase server logs:

View_log:

View_server.exe(216);Warning. Unable to open VOB \\host1\vobs\test_vob.vbs
Unknown error in VOB

Vobrpc_log: 

Vobrpc_server.exe(203). Trouble opening VOB database: \test_vob
