Problem
This technote identifies the cause and resolution to the following error, Unable to validate license key, FLEXlm Error: -8, Invalid (inconsistent) License key, which might appear while entering a temporary, evaluation or expired license key for an IBM® Rational® product.
Cause
The full error message is as follows:
Unable to validate license key. Make sure all information you enter or select exactly matches the license key information you have been given by IBM Rational. FLEXlm Error: -8, Invalid (inconsistent) License key
This error will occur if an IBM Rational temporary, evaluation or expired license key is not valid or has been entered incorrectly.
Resolving The Problem
Temporary IBM Rational product licenses on a client or server require specific values for the product, license key, quantity, and expiration date.
If you receive an invalid license key error, verify that the information you entered manually for the temporary license is complete and correct.
If the information for product, license key, quantity and expiration date is entered correctly and you still get the invalid license key error, contact IBM Rational Licensing Support or your local area sales representative for assistance.
