FLEXlm error: -5,163 No such feature exists

Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote identifies a possible resolution to the FLEXlm error: -5,163. No such feature exists, which appears when you launch the IBM® Rational® License Key Administrator on a client system.

Cause

The full error message is as follows:


No such feature exists:
License Path: <install directory>\Rational\common\rational_redirect.dat
FLEXlm error -5,163

There are reserved words in the rational_redirect.dat. The error is caused when the USE_SERVER reserved word is either missing or spelled incorrectly.

The rational_redirect.dat should look as follows:

SERVER <host name or IP address> ANY
USE_SERVER


A new rational_redirect.dat file should be created to resolve the issue.

Resolving The Problem

To create a new rational_redirect.dat file do the following:

On the client machine:

  1. Remove the old rational_redirect.dat file by deleting it from the following directory:
    <install directory>\Rational\common
  2. Create a new rational_redirect.dat file using the following steps:
    1. Launch the License Key Administrator.
    2. Go to Settings > Client/Server Configuration.
    3. Select Add Server
    4. Select Single or Redundant in the Server Type box.
    5. Enter the Server Name in the Server Name box.
    6. Click OK.
This will create a new rational_redirect.dat file which should resolve the FLEXlm -5 error.
