Default Time Out Period on IBM Rational FLEXlm Licensing

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technoteidentifies the default time out period used with IBM® Rational® FLEXlm licensing.

Resolving The Problem

The timeout setting is the amount of time that a client will hang onto a floating license, if a user just starts the product and leaves it running. The timeout is in effect while the product is running.
IBM Rational has a default timeout built into the licensing implementation. The default timeout period for license inactivity is 2 hours.
For the Rational License Server for Windows, Version 7.0.1.0 or higher, there is a FixPack that you can apply to reduce the time out value from 2 hours to 30 minutes. See link to server patch under related information.

The floating license timeout period for inactivity with a tool must be set to a value greater than 7200 seconds (120 minutes).
This default timeout can only be overridden by extending the timeout period (>7200 sec.). All settings shorter than 7200 sec. will be ignored.

The TIMEOUT and TIMEOUTALL can be used if you want to make the timeout period greater than 120 minutes but you can not make the timeout shorter, with the exception of having applied the FixPack mentioned above..
