APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The target server responsiveness (TSR) value on the distributor
    in a sysplex may show a decreased value for a target even though
    all servers are fully responsive to new connection requests, due
    to a timing window. This problem is seen when SHAREPORT is
    enabled.

    VERIFICATION STEPS:

    1) Shareport is enabled.
    2) The TSR value decreases despite no evidence that packets are
       being lost.

Local fix

  • Disable SHAREPORT

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the Communications Server for *
    *                 z/OS Version 1 Release 7 & 8 IP              *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: TSR value drops inexplicably when *
    *                      SHAREPORT is coded.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Part of the TSR calculation is based on the number of
    connections sent to a particular target compared to the number
    of connections that are accepted. The collection of these
    values is done on a once per minute basis, when the timer pops
    and when SHAREPORT calls for it. When the calculation is done
    for a non-DVIPA the timer is not running, so SHAREPORT calls
    must trigger the collections. When the calculation is done
    for a DVIPA the timer should do the collection.

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been changed to insure that collection for
    DVIPAs are only done by the timer and collections for non-DVIPAs
    are only done by non-timer calculations.
