Error description

  • After migration to IMS V9, neither SNAP dump on log nor SVC
dump was taken when pseudo ABEND occurred during full function
DL/I call. In IMS V7, SNAP dumps on log are taken when the same
ABEND occurs. but But in IMS V9, we could have no diagnostic
    data at all.
IMS V9 changed the way it takes diagnostic information when
pseudo ABENDs occur and now it takes SVC dump instead of SNAP
on log. However, SVC dump was suppressed with MSGDFS3932I RC24
because FMTO=X option prevents SVCDUMP of non-terminating ABEND.
DFS3932I IMS DUMP REQUEST COMPLETED - RETURN CODE = 024
DFSERA20 should not request SVCDUMP but should request snap
    to log, if FMTO=X, R, F or Z.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All IMS V9 Full Function Database users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: After pseudo abend U0853 neither SNAP *
    * dump nor SVC dump was taken with IMS *
    *                      control region EXEC parameter FMTO=X.   *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF *
    ****************************************************************
When module DFSERA20 is called to take an SVC dump for a pseudo
abend, it issues DFSDUMP macro to invoke module DFSFDMP0, which
checks the FMTO value from the IMS control region EXEC
parameter. If this value is X, R or F it suppresses the SVC
dump and issues message DFS3932I IMS DUMP REQUEST COMPLETED -
RETURN CODE = 024. so there's no diagnostic information for the
users to resolve the pseudo abend. When the SVC dump is not
taken, it should take SNAP dump to provide diagnostic
    information.

Problem conclusion

  • GEN:
    KEYWORDS:

    *** END IMS KEYWORDS ***
In module DFSERA20 after label ERA20PS4, code has been added to
set flag SNAPDUMP and issue IMAGE CALL,PROC=ANALYZE to perform
request analysis when DFSDUMP macro returns a return code 24.
In the ANALYZE routine, after label ESNAP001, code has been
added to check and reset the flag SNAPDUMP and take snap dump.
