Error description
Edge Components Load Balancer V7.0 for IPv4 and IPv6 for AIX launches ibmlb2 process when the executor is started. The executor does not stop by "kill -9". The customer needs a functionality to recover the process down.
Local fix
Restart the OS.
Problem summary
With Load Balancer for ipv6 and ipv4 version 7.0 on AIX, if the ibmlb2 process is manually killed, the machine must be rebooted to recover.
Problem conclusion
A utility called lb_kext is provided in the /opt/ibm/edge/ulb/servers/bin directory. When the utility is invoked, it will show if the ibmlb2 kernel extension is loaded or not. The kernel extension should be loaded and unloaded thru the LB "executor start" and "executor stop" command. If the executor gets into a bad state from a partial unload or using the kill command, the lb_kext -u will unload and allow LB to recover without requiring the machine to be rebooted. For debug purposes, the lb_kext -l will provide kernel tracing. Log messages are writen to stdout and can be redirected to a file to collect for analysis. lb_kext -h provides help for the utility.
