This document describes the system requirements for IBM® Data Studio Version 2.2.x (stand-alone package).

Ensure that your computer meets the system requirements before you install IBM Data Studio Version 2.2.x (stand-alone package).

Note: *The database catalog filter in IBM Data Studio Version 2.2.1.1 supports only DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Version 9.7 and later and DB2 for z/OS Version 9.1 and later.

DB2 administration tasks are supported for the same data sources that are supported in Optim Database Administrator. For a list of those data sources, see the Optim Database Administrator system requirements.

Additional setup for running the installation program

You might need to complete some additional setup steps before you run the installation program.

  1. Ensure that a JRE at level 1.6 or higher is installed and the PATH environment variable is configured.

    To use the bundled JRE:

    1. After you download the product, extract the compressed files to a directory, for example:
      Windows:
      C:\temp\install.exe
      Linux:
      /root/temp/install.bin
    2. Configure the following environment variables:
      On Windows:
      set JAVA_HOME=C:\temp\eclipse\jre
      set PATH=C:\temp\eclipse\jre\bin;%PATH%
      On Linux:
      export JAVA_HOME=/root/temp/eclipse/jre
      export PATH=/root/temp/eclipse/jre/bin:$PATH
  2. On Linux operating systems, run the following command before you run installation executable file:

    chmod +x ibm_data_studio_standalone_linux.bin

    If '.' is not in your path you should use:
    ./ibm_data_studio_standalone_linux.bin
