PK72822: VTAM I/O TIMEOUT DETECTION FACILITY TIMEOUT OF MSC LINK RESULTS IN DFS3238 AND PSTOPPED LINK DUE TO A RESIDUAL TIMER TABLE ENTRY

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• With the VTAM I/O Timeout Detection Facility active (/TRACE SET
  ON TIMEOUT) a DFS3238 INVALID INFO message was received for a
  VTAM MSC link resulting in disconnection of the link with
  messages DFS3239 and DFS2169I. A display of the link shows a
  status of PSTOPPED. The entry in the timer table for this link
  was not deleted after the last SEND because of unexpected timing
  with VTAM posting the link for input before posting the SEND
  complete. When the timer popped for this residual entry the link
  was invalidly posted with x'40'ASL leading to MSGDFS3238 and a
  status of PSTOPPED.

  When the timer popped, DFSASLT0 found the entry for the link and
  invalidly posted the link with x'40'ASL leading to MSGDFS3238
  and a status of PSTOPPED.
