APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • com.ibm.CORBA.ServerId is not honored in WebSphere Application
    Server 6.0 when set at generic JVM argument or as a ORB custom
    property. This property is completely ignored and the default
    HEX value for "server1" is used always as a serverId.

    orb.omg.CORBA.ORBServerId works fine on 6.1.

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server V6.0.2                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A user specified value for *
    *                      com.ibm.CORBA.ServerId                  *
    * custom property is not honored. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    If you add the ORB custom property com.ibm.CORBA.ServerId, its
    value is ignored by Application Server and the serverId is set
    to something default related to serverName.

Problem conclusion

  • Fixed the code so that people who want to set
    com.ibm.CORBA.ServerId to be something different from
    the default, can add a JVM argument for the specific
    application server:
    -Dcom.ibm.ejs.oa.enableServerIDChange=true", that is, in
    the administrative console:
    Application Servers->server1->Process Definition->Java Virtual
    machine-> field "generic JVM arguments", add this argument.
    Then you can add or edit an ORB custom property
    com.ibm.CORBA.ServerId to a certain value and that value will
    be used to set the serverId in ORB.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 6.0.2.31. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
    page for delivery information:
    http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980

    Note this applies to V6.0.2 only as this property is
    deprecated in V6.1 and higher.
