Error description
When unloading lob column to PDS (FRV) and not specifying the DIR parameter, DB2 will calculate the space allocated for directory of the PDS. But there is a limit ( The max number of blocks is 1638 and the max number of member in the PDS is 32767). When specify the space of the directory of the PDS, there is no limit on the number of members.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 for z/OS V8 and DB2 9 for z/OS * * utility users of UNLOAD using file * * reference variables. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: During UNLOAD of LOBs using file * * reference variables, dynamic * * allocation of the lob data set has * * a limit of 1638 for the number of * * directory blocks. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When unloading LOBs using file reference variables, DIR was not specified on the template statement which defines the data set in which to write the LOB data. The number of directory blocks for this data set was 1638 after dynamic allocation. This was too small to contain the number of LOBs in the table resulting in ABEND04E RC00E40350 or DSNU283I.
Problem conclusion
Code was modified to allow up to 32767 directory blocks for a dynamically allocated data set for the purpose of unloading LOBs using file reference variables. Note: If more than 32767 directory blocks are required the data set should be allocated prior to the unload. Additional Keywords: FRV CLOB CLOBF BLOB BLOBF DBCLOB DBCLOBF MSGDSNU283I
