Error description
Utilizing INDEX ON EXPRESSION generates incorrect column information from Panels: 1. ADB21T issuing XC command on the table 2. ADB21X issuing C command on the index
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of DB2 Administration Tool who use the * * C line command on an index on expression, or * * the XC line command on a table which has an * * index on expression. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1) C command shows wrong column order * * on panel ADB21XC(Columns in Index) * * for an index on expression. * * 2) KT should be COL on panel ADB21TXC * * (Indexes and Columns/Key Targets) * * when index on expression consists * * of 1 column. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply The PTF. * **************************************************************** 1) For simple indexes, the Seq No field on ADB21XC, which is based on DB2 catalog table SYSKEYS.COLSEQ, shows the numeric position of the column in the key. For indexes based on expressions, since there is not necessarily a 1:1 relationship between columns and the components (key-targets) of a key, the Seq No field is meaningless. In this case, DB2 uses the column number of the column in the table (COLNO) for the COLSEQ value. This results in an ordering for Seq No that may not match the order that the columns appear in the index key. 2) For indexes based on expressions, if an expression contains only 1 column, it shows up as KT instead of COL in the row on panel ADB21TXC.
Problem conclusion
1) Panel ADB21XC is changed as follows: - a note will display to indicate when the index involved is an index on expression - a null value, indicated by '?', is used in the Seq No field for an index on expression (indicates value is meaningless) - help panel ADBH1XC is updated to provide differentiation between simple indexes and indexes based on expressions, and to include expanded help via new panel ADBHK1XC, which includes information on the KT command to view key-target information. 2) KT (KeyTarget) is more accurate terminology than COL for columns which are used in an index on expression. An expression can consist of a single column reference, and the result of each expression is known as a key-target. Also, single column expressions are handled differently in the DB2 catalog than the columns in a simple index. So KT will remain as row type for indexes based on expressions. However, an enhancement is made to panel ADB21TXC to show the expressions for the index. Also, the S command on a KT-type row will now show information only for the selected key-target, which is consistent with the other row types. In addition, a problem with the display of panel ADB21Z(Key Targets),invoked with the KT command from panel ADB21T(Tables, Views, and Aliases), is fixed. Currently, when KT is issued on a table with key-targets from multiple indexes, the rows are ordered strictly by key sequence. The processing is changed to order by key sequence within index owner/name.
