Installation Instructions

You can install either the IDE package or the stand-alone package. For information on the differences between the packages, see Product features and benefits on the product web page. Data Studio Version 2.2.1 (stand-alone package):

There is no update mechanism for the 2.2.x stand-alone package, and version 2.2 is not required as a prerequisite for version 2.2.1. Use the install wizard to install Data Studio Version 2.2.1 (stand-alone package).

If you have a previous version 2.2.x installed, you must either uninstall that version or install IBM Data Studio Version 2.2.1 (stand-alone package) in a different directory.

To download and install Data Studio Version 2.2.1 (stand-alone package):

1. Download the stand-alone package in the download table below.
2. Extract the product package to a directory on your computer, for example: c:\temp\datastudio.
3. Optional: The product installation program requires a JRE at level 1.6 or higher. To use the JRE that is bundled with the product, configure the JAVA_HOME and PATH environment variables to \eclipse\jre in the directory where you extracted the product, for example:
   

   On Windows:
   set JAVA_HOME=C:\temp\datastudio\eclipse\jre
set PATH=C:\temp\datastudio\eclipse\jre\bin;%PATH%
   On Linux:
   export JAVA_HOME=/root/temp/datastudio/eclipse/jre
export PATH=/root/temp/datastudio/eclipse/jre/bin:$PATH

4. From the directory where you extracted the product, run the executable file:
   • On Windows, run: install.exe.
   • On Linux, run: ./install.bin.
5. Follow the installation wizard steps to install the product.

Data Studio Version 2.2.1 (IDE package):

You must download the compressed files that contain both IBM Data Studio Version 2.2.1 (IDE package) and IBM Installation Manager. The files that you extract from the compressed files form a repository for the installation. You can install the package from the repository on your own computer, or you can use IBM Packaging Utility to create the repository that can be hosted on a shared drive or an HTTP or HTTPs server. Use IBM Installation Manager to install Data Studio Version 2.2.1 (IDE package).

To download and install Data Studio Version 2.2.1 (IDE package):

1. Download the IDE package in the download table below.
2. Extract product package to a directory on your computer, for example: C:\temp\datastudio\.
3. From the directory where you extracted the product, run the executable file:
   • On Windows, run: setup.exe.
   • On Linux, run: setup.
4. Follow the installation wizard steps to install the product.
