Reports are not sent out via email when "Run with advanced options" is used. The user tries to send a report via email, after clicking OK, errors appear
When trace is enabled during this operation, then the following will be seen in the log file:
CNC-SDS-0410 The email message was not sent. Approximately message size: [x KB] The mail server returned this error: [[EOF]]
CNC-SDS-0408 There are email messages waiting to be sent.
CNC-SDS-0335 Error returned from SMTP Server. The error message was:
[[EOF]]. The message could not be sent.
Possible causes are:
- SMTP server configured on Cognos may be running on a distinct LAN/network. Firewalls between Cognos server and SMTP defined may be preventing the connection from succeeding.
- By default many SMTP servers will not relay an email to a domain other than the domain of the server for security reasons. SMTP server needs to be set up for relay.
- Corporate emailing server may not accept SMTP connections which will prevent Cognos from sending out the reports via email.
Resolving The Problem
Check to see if Cognos Server and SMTP server are in the same network.
In case they are not, check to see if firewalls exist between those servers/distinct networks which may be preventing the connections from being accepted.
By default many SMTP servers will not relay an email to a domain other than the domain of the server for security reasons.
The SMTP account should be configured for relay. SMTP server needs to be set up for relay.
Check to see if the corporate mailing server accepts SMTP connections. If the SMTP connections are not accepted then a simple local SMTP server should be configured on the box where Cognos is running. This will enable messages and reports to be sent out.
