Slow opening data entry form if a separate Excel spreadsheet is also open simultaneously, caused by defect (reference APAR PI89235) in Controller

Troubleshooting


Problem

User launches the 'main' Controller client, and clicks the green 'X' button (to launch Excel). Inside Excel, user opens an XLSX spreadsheet file (large report). User then clicks on the Excel-link menu item "Controller" and then clicks "Data Entry". User chooses their parameters, and clicks 'Open'. - It takes a long time (for example 2 minutes) for the data entry form to appear. If the user repeats the test but *without* opening the large report (XLSX file) beforehand, the data entry form opens very quickly (for example 5 seconds).

Symptom

Example:

In one real-life customer example, user launches the 'main' Controller client, and clicks the green 'X' button (to launch Excel):


Inside Excel, user opens an XLSX spreadsheet file (large report).

User then clicks on the Excel-link menu item "Controller" and then clicks "Data Entry":

User chooses their parameters, and clicks 'Open':



First, the Excel status goes to "working":

Approximately 30 seconds later, this changes to "Ready":


However, it then takes a further long time (for example an extra 90 seconds) for the data entry form to appear.
