Error description
CICS doesn't automatically reconnect to DB2 when, while CICS remains up, DB2 is brought down, then brought back up but is canceled before it is finished initializing, and then it is brought back up again. Your DB2 connection is defined with STANDBYMODE(RECONNECT) so there are a number of 04E/AKEX in the kernel error table, but the final failure is for 04F/AKEX. Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS Transaction Server for z/OS users * * using DB2. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The CICS DB2 connection may be left in * * a state of disconnect when using * * STANDBY=RECONNECT. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The CICS DB2 connection remains in a state of disconnect following an ABEND 04F from DB2. This is because CICS determines that it is disconnected from DB2 although DB2 has already identified itself to CICS. When DB2 is restarted, the CICS DB2 connection is not re-established and remains disconnected.
Problem conclusion
The DB2 coordinator DFHD2CO has been modified to be able to determine the state of the CICS-DB2 connection after CICS receives a 04F ABEND from DB2. CICS will disconnect from DB2 if it had identified with DB2 although the connection was not fully established. This places the CICS-DB2 connection into a state of standby waiting for DB2 to be restarted.
