Abstract

You can install IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights to provide access to forecast, current, and historical weather data in Maximo Asset Health Insights.

When IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights is installed, you can enable weather information for certain Maximo Asset Health Insights applications.

Installing IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights

To install IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights, follow these instructions.

Before you begin

Make sure that Maximo Asset Health Insights version 7.6 is installed.

Back up your system before running the installation and configuration of IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights.

Ensure that no database configuration changes are pending. Shut down all Maximo Asset Management applications and back up the database. If possible, make a backup of the administrative workstation. Alternatively, copy the Maximo Asset Management installation directory (C:\IBM\SMP or opt/IBM/SMP) and save it to another location. Also, copy the Installation Manager data directory (C:\ProgramData\IBM\Installation Manager or /var/ibm/InstallationManager) and save it to a backup location.

For Microsoft Windows 2012 users, log in as an administrator. If you attempt to install when you are not logged in as an administrator, the installation fails. IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights is provided as an Installation Manager compressed file. When you install IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights by using the Installation Manager program, the existing Maximo directory structure is overwritten. IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights also contains database scripts that modify the existing database.

To reverse the changes, you must restore the earlier version of the Maximo database and the directories that you saved.

Procedure

1. Download the IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights compressed file and copy it to the administrative workstation.

2. Run Installation Manager from the following directory:

  • Windows: Start > All Programs > IBM Installation Manager > IBM Installation Manager
  • UNIX: In the /opt/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse directory, run the IBMIM command.

3. In the Installation Manager main window, click File > Preferences.

4. Click Add Repository.

5. Browse to the location of the WeatherForAHIInstallerRepository.zip that you downloaded and click OK.

6. In the Preferences dialog box, click OK.

7. Click the Install icon.

8. In the Install Packages panel, select IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights, and click Next.

9. To complete the installation, follow the on-screen instructions.

10. Optional: When the installation is complete, you can launch the Configuration Tool to complete the configuration and deployment. Leave this option selected if you want to do so now. If you want to run the configuration later, or run it manually, select the “none” option.

11. Exit the Installation Manager.

12. To complete the installation, you must configure the product into the IBM Maximo Asset Management and rebuild and redeploy the EAR file. See the Configuring IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights section of this technote for details on this process.

Configuring IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights with the UI configuration tool

You can configure IBM IoT Weather Data on Cloud, Maximo Asset Health Insights with the automated user interface configuration tool.

Procedure

1. If you did not start the configuration program at the end of the Install process, start the configuration program now.

  • For Windows, in the <install_home>\ConfigTool directory, run ConfigUI.exe, for example, C:\IBM\SMP\ConfigTool\ConfigUI.exe
  • For UNIX, in the <install_home>/ConfigTool directory, run ConfigUI, for example, /opt/IBM/SMP/ConfigTool/ConfigUI.

2. In the Deployment Operations pane, select Update Database, Build and Deploy Application EAR Files. If Maximo Asset Management 7.6.0.6 or higher is installed, you can use the option to Update the database with the UpdateDB Lite feature to decrease the application downtime.

3. Before updating the database, you must stop Maximo Asset Management.

What to do next

Before you can use the updated software, delete the web browser cache on every computer that uses the product.
