Error description

  • A linemode (VT100) client connects to the Telnet server. TSO is
    entered as the target application. The 'HELP' command is entered
    from the TSO READY prompt. The HELP response, however, is
    garbled. Translation of EBCDIC newlines (x'15') into the ASCII
    string x'0D0A' does not always occur. If DEBUG DETAIL is
    specified in the Telnet profile then the following message
    will also be produced:

    EZZ6035I TN3270 DEBUG CONN   DETAIL 755
      IP..PORT: ::FFFF:nn.nn.nn.nn..nnnn
      CONN: nnnnnnnn LU: luname MOD: EZBTPLMT
      RCODE: nnnn-00 Return code explanation not available.
      PARM1: 00000000 PARM2: 00000000 PARM3: 00000000

    Note: The RCODE will contain a random value.

Local fix

  • Connect to the Telnet server with either a TN3270 or TN3270E
    type client.

    * from TSO are not always being *
    *                      converted to an ASCII x'0D0A'           *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    A linemode client connected to the Telnet server and
    logged on to TSO. The HELP command was entered from
    the TSO READY prompt. The response from the HELP
    command was incorrectly displayed at the client.
    Analysis of the data revealed that many of the EBCDIC
    newline characters (x'15') were not appropriately
    converted to the ASCII string x'0D0A' (Carriage
    return/linefeed).

    The following EZZ6035I message is displayed if Telnet
    DEBUG option is in effect:

    09.19.04  EZZ6035I TN3270 DEBUG CONN   DETAIL
      IP..PORT: x.xx.xxx.xxx..yyyy
      CONN: 00000014 LU: TCPM1152 MOD: EZBTPLMT
      RCODE: 54B4-00 Return code explanation not available.
      PARM1: 00000000 PARM2: 00000000 PARM3: 00000000

    Translation errors also occurred when data containing
    a large number of EBCDIC newlines was received from the
    host application.

Problem conclusion

  • Module EZBTPLMT has been amended to ensure correct
    allocation for the transient buffer used to perform
    EBCDIC to ASCII translation.
