IBM Support

sFTP connection failing using two-factor authentication

Troubleshooting

Problem

When trying to establish a sFTP connection from IBM Sterling B2B Integrator (ISBI) to a remote server that requires two-factor authentication (password and public key), the connection fails with error: "Cannot Authenticate)

Symptom

The BP execution shows the following error at the sFTP client begin session:

<STATUS_RPT>SFTPClientBeginSession failed.
Error Message = [Cannot authenticate.]

The sFTP client log shows that both, public key and password authentication fail:

[2016-04-25 10:14:07.829] DEBUG Session.authToServer(S,P,P,B) pass authentication result 2
[2016-04-25 10:14:07.886] DEBUG Session.authToServer(S,P,P,B) pk authentication result 2
[2016-04-25 10:14:07.886] DEBUG Session.authToServer(S,P,P,B) return with false
[2016-04-25 10:14:07.886] DEBUG Session.beginSession(BSR,R,PT) runnable couldn't authenticate.
[2016-04-25 10:14:07.886] ERROR Session.failedSequence(S,R) Cannot authenticate.
