Error description
When accessing or executing a program in a dynamic view via a Windows symbolic link, Windows crash with a BSOD in the MVFS. This is when using Microsoft NTFS symbolic link NOT ClearCase symbolic link. Reproduction step CC 8.0.0.4/7.1.2.x and Windows 7 64 bits As administrator: - Open an admin cmd.exe - Create or start a view and map it to a drive net use U: \\view\viewtag - Create the symbolic link from Windows filesystem to the view folder cd c:\temp mklink /D linked_folder U:\vobtag\folder - Cd into it form the C drive cd linked_folder - Attempt to execute the program or run a cleartool command (program is under source control in checkin) BSOD Not all programs or commands cause the crash. Some executable or ClearCase commands works fine, some not. It depends what the programs is doing on the filesystem. In the reproduction a simple 'cleartool ls' caused a BSDO. WORKAROUND: Microsoft symbolic link into the MVFS are NOT supported and should not be used.
