How to recover from a cryptokey failure without regenerating the cryptokeys

Question & Answer

Question

Cryptokey failures have been known to manifest themselves in a number of ways e.g. 1. CAM-AAA-0064 The function 'CAM_UnprotectData' failed. 2. "Unexpected: missing HRESULT parameter". 3. Contributor Administration Console (CAC) 'Hangs' at Verifying Scheduler Credentials stage when opening. 4. CM-SYS-5095 Content Manager could not determine whether this request was signed because it could not use the Cognos Access Manager security subsystem. CAM-CRP-1343 Failed to process the trusted request. Unable to find an appropriate common symmetric key to decrypt the data. and some clients have got into the habit of recreating the cryptokeys without trying to investigate the root cause of the cryptokey failure.
