Troubleshooting
Problem
User opens a Data Entry form, and then saves this as an Excel spreadsheet (XLSX) file. In the future, the user then re-opens that XLSX file, and also opens a Data Entry form. During the simultaneous use of these two Excel sheets, errors/problems occur.
Symptom
Example Scenario:
User performs the following steps:
1. Launches Controller (CCR.EXE)
2. Clicks "Company - Data Entry - Reported Values"
3. User opens any form. This causes Excel to open with some populated cells.
4. User saves this resultant sheet as an XLSX file (for example C:\temp\my_example.xlsx).
5. User closes Excel
6. User re-launches Excel, and opens the XLSX file ("my_example.xlsx")
7. User then (inside Excel) clicks the Controller Excel-link button "Data Entry"
8. User chooses the parameters, and opens a data entry form
- Initially, all the relevant Controller-link buttons (for example 'Open form', 'Reload', 'Account Description' are available/viewable:
9. Inside Excel, switch to the 'saved' XLSX file ("my_example.xlsx")
10. Choose some cells, right-click and choose 'copy'
11. Switch back to the 'data entry form' spreadsheet. Highlight a cell, right-click and choose 'paste'
- Notice how this calls some of those Controller-link buttons (for example 'Open form', 'Reload', 'Account Description' to disappear:

12. Now close Excel. An error appears:

Standard Error
Source: Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel
Description: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800401A8
at Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.WorkbookClass.set_Saved(Boolean RHS)
at Cognos.Controller.ControllerForms12.clsDataEntry.CloseActiveWorkbook(Boolean doClose)
Secondary Symptom:
If a different user (for example 'USER_B') now tries to open the same Data Entry form (which the original user - 'USER_A' had recently received the above crash/error) then USER_B will get the following message (indicating that the data entry form is locked by the original user):
- Form ABC for company 12345 and period 1610AC is locked by another user (USER_A), The form will be opened in read only.
