Hardware and Software Requirements for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) 6.1 clients, which reached End-Of-Support (EOS) on April 30, 2014, and reaches End-of-Life (EOL) on April 30, 2017.

The following GPFS releases are supported:
  • 3.2 and higher 3.2 levels
  • 3.3.0.3 and higher 3.3 levels (but not 3.3.0.11) with TSM 6.1.3 and higher 6.1 TSM levels
  • TCP/IP, which comes standard with Linux
  • Shared Memory (only with Linux x86_64 TSM server)Removed the HSM PID (which was potentially wrong) at the bottom of this doc.

Note: starting with Java Update 4 for Mac 10.5.7 and higher, the default path for temp files changed, causing the 6.1.0.0 TSM client Java GUI to fail with error ANS1971E after installation. This was corrected in 6.1.0.1 and higher clients. See APAR IC61544.

  • Windows Preinstallation Environments (Windows PE) (x32 or x64, except Win 7 and Win 2008 R2) for recovery scenarios, as described in the Tivoli Field Guide (Use search term 7005028)
  • Windows Vista, all editions (except Automated System Recovery (ASR)), all SPs supported***
  • Windows 2008 Server and Windows 2008 Server Core, all editions (except Automated System Recovery (ASR)), all SPs supported
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core, all editions (except Automated System Recovery (ASR), all SPs supported. Client level 6.1.2 or higher required for x64 processors, and 6.1.3 or higher for IA64 processors.
  • Windows 7, all editions (except Automated System Recovery (ASR)), all SPs supported. Client level 6.1.2 or higher required.

NOTE:
  • The V6.1 TSM client is supported on a Hyper-V guest running an operating system supported by the V6.1 TSM client.

**NOTES on Windows 2003 requirements:
  • If you plan to back up System State or use Open File Support with the VSS snapshot provider, you must install Service Pack 1 (SP1) or higher Service Pack level, and you must install Microsoft hotfix roll-up packages 934016 (for COM+) and 940349 (for VSS). The hotfix roll-up packages can be found at Microsoft's support page http://support.microsoft.com.
  • If you plan to use a 64-bit machine, apply the Microsoft hotfix for knowledge base article 908675. The hotfix is included in Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Windows 2003. In case you cannot apply the entire Service Pack this particular hotfix can be provided by Microsoft upon request. See details at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908675.

***NOTES on Windows Vista requirements:
  • SP1 or higher is required to back up or restore System State with the VSS snapshot provider.
 One for the following, which are included in the base Windows product packages:
  • TCP/IP (the only one used for Web client)
  • Named Pipes (used in conjunction with TSM server running on same Windows machine)
  • Shared Memory (used in conjunction with TSM server running on same Windows machine)
Notes:
  • For information on which TSM client functions are supported on which hardware, see Function table
  • The Web client requires the Java plugin that is included in JRE 5 or JRE 6. The client is supported when running in Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers with the required plugin.
  • Only 64-bit clients can be run on 64-bit machines.
  • For information on running the TSM client in a virtual environment, see Virtual Machines.

Server functions not included in this client:
  • SQLDB: Certain SQL select statements using path for the files backed up by an OS/390 UNIX System Services client might not work properly.
  • Server command 'query content'
  • Cross client restore
