Summary
SSLv3 contains a vulnerability that has been referred to as the Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption (POODLE) attack. SSLv3 is enabled in Host Access Transformation Services to connect to telnet servers on end host machines.

CVE-ID: CVE-2014-3566
Description: Product could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by a design error when using the SSLv3 protocol. A remote user with the ability to conduct a man-in-the-middle attack could exploit this vulnerability via a POODLE (Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption) attack to decrypt SSL sessions and access the plaintext of encrypted connections.

Remediation/Fixes
A fix is available in the following HATS releases:
- Rational Host Access Transformation Services Fix Pack 5 (8.0.0.5) for 8.0
- Rational Host Access Transformation Services Fix Pack 5 (8.5.0.5) for 8.5
- Rational Host Access Transformation Services Fix Pack 2 (9.0.0.2) for 9.0
Clients who are on older unsupported versions of IBM Rational Host Access Transformation Services are also advised to upgrade to one of the above listed versions.
Clients who are on IBM Rational Host Access Transformation Services V7.5.1.6 are advised to upgrade to one of the above listed versions.
Workarounds and Mitigations
IBM recommends that you review your entire environment to identify areas that enable the SSLv3 protocol and take appropriate mitigation and remediation actions. The most immediate mitigation action that can be taken is disabling SSLv3.
- Under Project Settings > Advanced tab, DO NOT set the value of the optional parameter SecurityProtocol to 2.
- IBM also recommends disabling SSLv3 on Host side.
