APAR status

Error description

  • File system operations like mount,write etc .. can hang
    on
    JFS file systems if the vmo tunable strict_maxperm is set
    to
    1. This problem can only be seen with JFS filesystems.
    Filesystem like JFS2, Veritas not effected by this
    problem.
    
    If all rootvg filesystems on the system are of JFS type,
    then system may not even boot if the strict_maxperm is
    set to 1.
    

Local fix

  • vmo -p -o strict_maxperm=0
    

Problem summary

  • An application that uses JFS operations may become
    non-resposive or a system with JFS filesystems may not boot or
    may hang.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The initialization of the variable was moved to the general
    code path.
