IJ05023: corrupt dtree may cause fsck to hang APPLIES TO AIX 7100-05

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • AIX server running database reported file system
    corruption
    (file system superblock is dirty) after server was
    restarted. Attempts to correct corruption error by
    running
    fsck is not successful. fsck cmd has been running for
    about
    7-8 hours. This file system is only 300 GB in size.
    

Local fix

  • Stop fsck (Ctrl-C), and then run it again. Ctrl-C gets it
    out of the loop.
    

Problem summary

  • fsck on a corrupt filesystem might hang if a specific
    metadata entry has got corrupted.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Do not lopp forever looking for terminal slot. Stop when
    the maximum possible number of slot entries is hit.
