Error description

  • Microsoft Excel temp files in a SMB share are not removed
when actual file is removed or closed.

Reported In:
Spectrum Scale 4.2.3

Known Impact:
Lots of tmp files persist.

Verification steps:
Here is the actual issue Excel issue on his SMB Share:
 1. Open an Excel file in case123
 2. Click the refresh button in the file explorer
 3. Close Excel
 4. Watch the ~temp file persist
 5. The temp file also persists after the original Excel
    file deletion

Local fix

  • setting gpfs:sharemodes=no

Problem summary

  • Microsoft Excel temporary files in a Spectrum Scale SMB share
are not deleted.

Problem conclusion

  • Remove file system sharemode before calling unlink.
