Question
How can the status of a DB2 database backup that is in progress to a Tivoli Storage Manager server be determined or monitored from a DB2 perspective.
Cause
Query session and query process (for Tivoli Storage Manager db backup) can be used to check or monitor the status of a DB2 backup to the Tivoli Storage Manager server. However sometimes it's critical to understand or monitor the status of the DB2 database backup from a DB2 perspective.
Answer
The following DB2 command can be used to check or monitor the status of a DB2 database backup:
- db2 list utilities show detail
This can be used for a Tivoli Storage Manager database backup running on the Tivoli Storage Manager server. When issued as the DB2 instance owner the following is an example of the output:
ID = 14275
Type = BACKUP
Database Name = TSMDB1
Partition Number = 0
Description = online db
Start Time = 04/04/2014 08:05:38.813880
State = Executing
Invocation Type = User
Throttling:
- Priority = Unthrottled
- Estimated Percentage Complete = 1
- Total Work = 45642351972 bytes
Completed Work = 489365836 bytes
Start Time = 04/04/2014 08:05:38.813888
This command could also be used for any DB2 user database backup that is being saved with the Tivoli Storage Manager API.
