Image Services: Announcing the release of the fn_dump support tool

Troubleshooting

Problem

A new support tool named fn_dump is now available. When a process aborts abnormally on Windows, the operating system can create a dump file (with extension ‘.dmp’) that provides a snapshot of the process memory at the time of the crash. This dump file may be useful later when debugging the problem. By default the Windows operating system does not create dump files for processes that encounter exceptions and crash. Windows must be configured properly to accomplish this, and the configuration procedure varies with different versions of the operating system. Sometimes a dump file is not created even when it appears that the system is properly configured. The dump files created by Windows can also be hard to locate and correlate to our error logs.
