• General Information on using TYPE 2 indexes:
  In DB2 version 4 (R410), there can be an expected 25% growth
  in space from a TYPE 1 to a TYPE 2 index. The DB2 v4 Install
  Guide, pg 2-32, provides formulas to use in calculating the
  amount of space needed for TYPE 2 indexes. See also Ch 2-5
  Designing Indexes for more information.
    There is excessive logging during index conversion to
  Type 2.  The apparent "excessive logging" also occurs
  with empty tablespaces (those with zero rows).
    The logging that is being done is for the updating of the
  DBD that contains the index being converted.  When they
  do the alter convert we update the pageset obd to
  indicate that it is now a Type 2 index.  When the pageset
  obd is updated the 'whole DBD' is logged.  Since they
  have a huge DBD then for each index being converted we
  write out the 'whole DBD' to the DB2 logs.  They can
  do a display database to get an idea of how large the
  DBD is.  This is the way DB2 works.
